How to Develop Good Study Habits

One of the fastest ways to change your results is to change your habits.

If you’re not happy with your results in school, take a look at your study habits, the things you do routinely without even thinking, i.e. subconsciously.

Do you regularly check your phone while studying or is it turned off until you’re ready to take a break?

Do you study the hardest thing first or leave it until the very end?

Do you plan what to study in advance or decide what to do on the day?

Your answer to these questions will tell you a lot about your study habits and what areas you can improve on.

In fact, by making small changes to your routine and implementing good study habits, you can massively change your results!

Study Habits Checklist

If you need help identifying the study habits which are no longer serving you and the study habits that will ultimately enable you to improve your grades, download our FREE Study Habit Checklist.

Simply tick “yes” or “no” for each item on the list.

Anything that you have ticked “no” for is something that you can work on developing so that you can improve your grades, grow in confidence and reach your full potential.

How to Implement New Study Habits

Work on implementing one study habit at a time.

In general, we recommend you work on one habit per month.

In the beginning, implementing a new habit will feel forced. This is not something that you’re used to doing and it isn’t part of your daily practice.

Because it’s a new habit, and the brain, generally, doesn’t like doing new things that make it feel uncomfortable (we go through this in detail in our Study Skills Courses), you may even try to talk yourself out of implementing this new habit.

But the key is to get disciplined and stay consistent.

If you forget to implement your new habit on a particular day, don’t worry about it. Just pick up where you left off tomorrow.

You might even use a habit tracker to help you stay on track.

Implementing a new study habit consistently will enable it to become a subconscious practice that you don’t even have to think about anymore.

Just like brushing your teeth in the morning, you just do it!
